restored transom from 1909 Art Glass Catalog

In the past it was not uncommon for both churches and homeowners to order stained and beveled glass panels from art glass studio catalogs. In 1909 the National Ornamental Glass Manufacturers Association compiled a catalog of residential designs. It was distributed by member art glass studios. These standard designs would then be constructed to each customer's particular dimensions for installation by the customers into their glass openings.

This transom is one of those panels. It is identified in the 1909 catalog as design 394-N and originally cost $2.50 a square foot to buy.

Our client acquired this panel damaged in several places. One of the most difficult tasks in restoring historic windows is matching the broken or missing original glass with glass available now. This was done nicely here and this restored panel is now on display in our client's new home.
